AKAH completes retrofitting of damaged school

The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat Pakistan (AKAH-P) has completed the retrofitting and renovation of Govt Primary School Meragram No 1 in Upper Chitral.

The school, previously rendered unsafe due to floods, has been revitalized with state-of-the-art solar power systems, fortified walls and roofing, and refurbished washroom facilities. The school was officially handed over to the district administration at a ceremony today.

AKAH-P Regional Program Manager Wali Muhammad Khan, addressing the gathering, underscored the agency’s unwavering commitment to enhancing human well-being through sustainable initiatives.

“This project embodies our vision of empowering communities by providing essential infrastructure and addressing critical needs. We deeply appreciate the cooperation of both Upper and Lower Chitral administrations in this endeavor,” he said, expressing hope for continued partnerships to drive further development in the region.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Anwar commended AKAH-P’s vital role in rebuilding and rehabilitating disaster-stricken areas. He lauded the agency’s efforts, particularly in post-flood recovery, as exemplary and deserving of community-wide support. “Initiatives like these require the collective effort of government, organizations, and local residents to ensure sustainable development,” he stated.

The handover ceremony witnessed a significant turnout, including local notables, district officials, and residents, reflecting strong community support and involvement. This project also highlights AKAH-P’s ability to leverage international resources, with financial backing from the Union Bank of Switzerland, emphasizing the power of global partnerships in driving local progress.
This project marks another milestone in AKAH-P’s mission to build resilient communities, bridging global resources with local needs to foster sustainable development in Chitral.
