People of Prayit lower have been working on self-help basis to restore water supply to the village as the government department failed to come to their help even many weeks after the devastating rains and flash flooding.
The village is without water for irrigation and drinking. Even though the issue was brought to their notice, the government and other authorities have not taken any step to resolve the issue.
Basharat Elahi, a social worker, told ChitralToday that the village with a population of over 200 had been without drinking water for too long, The residents are deprived of drinking water and a tank which was built 15 years ago under a modern filtration system is now falling apart, he said.
According to Basharat Elahi, lack of proper maintenance by the concerned department led to the accumulation of silt, sand, and weeds in the small tanks and supply lines. As a result, the people are forced to drink dirty water, which has serious health implications.
The people of Prayit Payen are demanding that the relevant institutions of the water scheme ensure the supply of water by cleaning the system properly so that they can once again access filtered water. This, they believe, will have a positive impact on their health. The situation is dire, and the people of Prayit Payen are calling on the authorities to take immediate action to address their water issue, he added.
