Student’s alleged killer remanded in police custody
BOONI: Suspect arrested in the murder case of an engineering student has been remanded to police for three days, said the police in a statement.
It said the suspect was produced in the court of the senior civil judge in Booni who handed him on physical remand to the police.
According to the police, the death of Rafiq Ali of Reshun initially seemed to be caused by a bike accident. However, after looking into it from different angles and ‘using technical capabilities’ the police registered a murder case (302) and took the suspect into custody five days after the incident.
The student had come home on vacation and went missing after leaving home in the evening of April 20. The following morning, his dead body along with his bike was recovered near the river at Kulum Shughoor area, at a long distance from the main road.
On the complaint of the elder brother of the deceased and after getting his statement recorded before a magistrate the police arrested Ikram Nawaz, son of Gul Nawaz of Reshun Gol.
According to family sources, deep wounds were found in the back of Rafiq’s head. In the FIR, his brother alleged that Rafiq had been tortured and stoned to death.
The relatives of the deceased have expressed satisfaction over the police action, but said the investigation should be widened to ascertain if the killer was alone or he had accomplices in the gruesome murder.
