‘Govt schools attracting students from private sector’

CHITRAL: As many as 1,300 students have taken admission in government schools in Lower Chitral so far this year after leaving private schools. This shows that people’s trust in the government schools has been restored.

This was stated by Deputy District Education Officer Shahid Hussain while speaking at a function held in connection with the ongoing enrollment drive in the district. He said the enrollment target for Lower Chitral this year was 5,416 students and so far 2,700 children had been enrolled, and of these 1,300 children came from private schools.

He said last year Lower Chitral was among the top three districts across the province in terms of performance and the admissions were also more than the target in Lower Chitral. The admission campaign in government schools started on March 1 and will continue till April 30.

The function was held at the Govt Primary School Chitral after an awareness walk led by Assistant Commissioner Atif Jalib and school head and officials from the education department.

The walk was also participated by schoolchildren, their parents, teachers, officials and people from different walks of life. The walk after passing through the Chitral Bazar ended at the primary school. 

The assistant commissioner said the government schools were also imparting quality education to students.

“I assure you that children studying in government educational institutions are not behind those studying in private schools.” He urged parents to enroll their children in government schools and at least visit the schools every two weeks to inquire about their performance. He said the provincial government was making every effort to improve the quality of these schools.
