CHITRAL: The construction of Kalash valleys road is underway by National Highway Authority (NHA) in complete disregard to environment safety laws.
The aurhority is carrying out blasting of the mountain and throwing the boulders and debris into the nullah. It is unlikely that the NHA would clear the waterway of the debris paving the way for flooding.
Shahzada Sirajul Mulk, Liaquat Ali, Inayatullah Aseer, Wajihuddin, Jandullah Khan and Muhammad Rehman visited the construction site and expressed their serious concerns over trampling of the environment law by the NHA.
They said that the construction of the road was considered vital for the development of the Kalash valleys and promotion of tourism in the area. But the way the authority was executing the mega project would bring disasters to the area.
It seems a plan is in the making to cause destruction not only to the environment but also to the under-construction road, water channels of powerhouses, agricultural land and the irrigation system in Ayun.
They called upon the government authorities to take immediate notice of the issue and ensure that the NHA cleared the nullah of the debris before the start of the summer season.–Muhkam Uddin
