BOONI: The Al-Karim Welfare Society commemorated the International Women’s Day by holding an event to honor the remarkable contributions of women in Chitral.
Established in 1988 by Ehsanul Haq Jan, the society is dedicated to youth development and global engagement, striving to empower the young generation to lead meaningful lives and contribute to sustainable community development, says a press release.
The event, attended by about 150 women, showcased inspiring success stories and celebrated the resilience of women who have significantly impacted their communities throughout history. The program commenced with a recitation from Surah Nisa by Ali Muhaiminul Islam followed by welcome by the society president, recognizing the exceptional contributions of Chitral’s women.
Ms. Amina Nigar eloquently presented the historical significance of International Women’s Day while a touching mime/drama performed by children shed light on the challenges faced by Chitral’s young girls and women within cultural boundaries.
A captivating panel discussion on “Our society and women empowerment” featured experts from various fields, engaging the audience with insightful discussions on education, climate change, health, entrepreneurship and social adaptability.
Highlighting the event was the recognition awards presented by Al Karim Welfare Society and Chitral Heritage and Environment Protection Society (CHEPS), honoring remarkable women who have supported their families during difficult times and awards to the shining new talents in the field of sports by AKWS.
The interactive session allowed the audience to pose questions to the AKWS cabinet and project team with President Manzoor AhmAd and Project Manager SalahUd Din providing insightful responses.
Tamkeem Nasir, a young member of AKWS, emphasized the importance of digital inclusion and women’s empowerment on digital platforms based on her experiences, inspiring attendees with her advocacy.
Muslima Farman shared her decade-long journey as a women leader, serving as a teacher and social activist, while Alwaiz Sir Rehmat Ishaq provided a cultural and religious perspective on women’s rights as expressed in the Quran and Ahadith.
The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Ms. Safina Hydier, expressing gratitude for collective efforts in advancing gender equality and community resilience.
