Road to Lowari tunnel closed
CHITRAL: The district administration of Lower Chitral has closed the Lowari tunnel approach road to and from Chitral, a statement said on Friday.
The decision was taken by the deputy commissioner keeping in view the current snowfall and weather condition based on the forecast of the Met Office. About one foot of snow had fallen on the approach road to the the Lowari tunnel on Friday morning. The district administration had said on the direction of the deputy commissioner, NHA machinery had been put on a standby and snow was being removed from the approach road to the tunnel.
However, the statement said that on the direction of DC Muhammad Imran Khan, Additional Assistant Commissioner Drosh along with Levies personnel visited the tunnel area and helped passengers who were stranded in the snow. Later, the district administration decided to close the road to the tunnel as a precautionary measure.
The district administration directed all Ada owners and transporters to avoid travelling on the road to the tunnel till further orders.
Schools closed
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner stated that on the request of the district education officer all schools were closed on Saturday due to the inclement weather.
