Chitral Economic Zone facilitation office inaugurated
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has achieved a milestone in the journey towards industrial development by completion of work on Chitral Economic Zone and inaugurating the state-of-the-art industrial facilitation office building there.
Caretaker Minister for Industries, Commerce, Technical Education Dr. Aamer Abdullah, during his visit to Chitral, inaugurated the office building inside the economic zone near Gang Gahiret. Officials on the occasion outlined the master plan of the Chitral economic zone.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the caretaker minister said the project will prove a game changer in the history of Chitral. He added that after full operation of the zone, the local skilled youth will have no need to go outside in search of employment.
While lauding the industrialization as a key source of development, he stressed upon easing the zones development and success process and promised possible support from the government.
He hoped that the next government will also strive for the industrial facilitation in the province. The minister said the Chitral EZ was a major development for the improvement of specific industries of the area and vowed that due to its importance, its statues will be converted to special economic zone.
The minister also distributed allotment letters among investors who have received plots in the zone for industries.
Meanwhile, the minister was told that the Chitral EZ, sprawling over 40 acres, was developed over a span of two years. The completed infrastructure development works within the zone encompassed roads, drains, water supply, retaining walls, and the impressive office building. Additionally, 1.72 acres of land has been acquired, reflecting the overwhelming response and interest from potential investors.
Moreover, the Chitral EZ upon full colonization is expected to generate a substantial number of employment opportunities, making a significant contribution to the local economy. The zone’s rapid development aligns with the broader goals of fast-paced industrialization throughout the province.
Similarly, Chitral Economic Zone boasts high growth potential due to its accessibility through the Lowari Tunnel, situated along an alternative route of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). This alternative route witnesses’ massive inflows of tourists each year, making Chitral EZ strategically positioned for economic success.
It is to mentioned that the Chitral Economic Zone is specifically designed to accommodate a variety of industries, making it an ideal destination for businesses looking to thrive in the region. Key sectors suitable for investment in the Chitral EZ include marble industries, industry for embroidery and knitting, handicraft Development, ready-made garments, furniture, food and cold storage.
This diverse range of sectors not only align with the local resources and skills but also reflects the economic potential and opportunities for growth within Chitral EZ. Chitral Economic Zone’s positive impact extends beyond its borders, contributing to the economic development of adjoining areas such as Lower Dir and Upper Dir.
