ECP issues list of constituencies; PK-1 Upper Chitral

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan today released a list of constituencies for both provincial and national assemblies.

The announcement of the delimitation process is in line with the commission’s plan to hold the general elections in the last week of January 2024, possibly on 28th.

According to a list, both the provincial and national assembly seats start from PK-1 and NA-1 from Chitral. Chitral remains with only one seat in the National Assembly, but the seat of Upper Chitral has been restored in the KP assembly.

Upper Chitral has been assigned the constituency number PK-1 and Lower Chitral PK-2 in the provincial assembly.

The population of Upper Chitral has been recorded as 195,528 and that of Lower Chitral as 32,0407.

In a press release, the ECP said: “The publication of the constituencies will continue for 30 days from Sept 27 to Oct 26.” 

According to the list, the population distribution in the National Assembly constituencies is as under: Balochistan has 930,900 voters followed by 913,052 voters in Sindh, 907,913 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 905,595 in Punjab, and 787,954 in Islamabad.

The National Assembly consists of 266 general seats and 60 seats reserved for women. Ten seats have also been reserved for non-Muslims.

In the provincial assembly constituencies, the figures show Punjab leads with a total population of 429,929, followed by Sindh with 428,432, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 355,270, and Balochistan with 292,047.

It added objections (representations) to the preliminary constituencies can be made by the voters of the concerned constituency.
