BOONI: Police in Upper Chitral have arrested six activists of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on the charge of violating a ban on holding ‘public gathering’.
The arrested activists included PTI Upper Chitral vice president and former UC nazim Zulfi Hunar Shah and tehsil Mastuj vice president Izatmand Shah.
The PTI activists were taken into custody by the Laspur police on the charge of violating the ban following party Chairman Imran Khan’s arrest in Lahore on August 5.
According to the FIR registered against the activists available with Chitral Today, the police received information that the PTI activists were holding a gathering in the bazaar of Sor Laspur despite the fact that a ban had been enforced by the DC Upper Chitral on assembly of four or more people.
On July 16, six activists of the PTI were arrested in Upper Chitral. The PTI activists were sent to Mardan jail for one month under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
The Peshawar High Court later sought a detailed reply from the deputy commissioner of Upper Chitral in a petition challenging detention of the activists.
