PPP to nominate Saifullah for minority seat in KP assembly

CHITRAL: The PPP Lower Chitral has decided to nominate its longtime worker in Rumbur valley, Saifullah Kalash, for the minority seat in the provincial assembly.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly has 145 elected members, 115 regular seats, 26 seats reserved for women and four seats for non-Muslims, including the Kalash community of Chitral.

In 2018, for the first time in Pakistan’s history, Wazirzada from the Kalash community was nominated for a minority seat in KP assembly by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI). He was later appointed as special assistant to the chief minister.

If the PPP’s nominee for the minority seat makes it to the assembly, Mr Saifullah will be the second Kalash community member from Chitral to represent his community in the house.

While the tenure of the National Assembly expires on Aug 14, the KP assembly has already been dissolved by the PTI. With elections expected to be held later this year, political parties have started the process to finalize their candidates.

The PPP Chitral has also named its expected candidates for the lone NA and two provincial assembly seats.
