Hundreds stranded amid heavy snowfall

CHITRAL: Hundreds of passengers going to down districts were stranded between Drosh and Lowari tunnel on Tuesday due to heavy snowfall that continued for the second consecutive day blocking the road.

On the other hand, people coming to Chitral from different parts of the country were also stuck in Dir side of the tunnel and facing lots of hardship in the snow.
Rescue 1122 said snowfall and rain continued across Chitral for the second day. The Chitral-Dir road due to snowfall had become very slippery at Bakrabad and Chumorkhon and Rescue 1122 staff removed the snow from the road, it added.
DPO Lower Chitral Nasir Mehmood put all officers and jawans on high alert to deal with any emergency situation and help the passengers, said a press statement. It added that a large number of vehicles were stuck at Lowari tunnel and Drosh.

“SDPO Circle Drosh Iqbal Karim along with SHOs of the circle, traffic wardens and other jawans are rescuing the stuck vehicles from Lowari tunnel to Drosh and shifting passengers to safe places.”

In view of severe weather conditions, all stand owners and drivers have been informed that in view of the safety of human lives in severe weather conditions the movement of vehicles has been stopped in Dir and Chitral sides.
“In the same way, we request those going to different places within the city to avoid unnecessary travel, your small negligence can turn the happiness of your loved ones into grief.”
