Maktab school in Kashindel of Shishi Koh

Maktab school without classrooms, basic facilities

DROSH: A maktab school set up in Kashindel village of Shishi Koh valley has almost been forgotten by the government after its establishment about 30 years ago.

Local people told ChitralToday that the maktab school was set up in a room adjacent to a mosque in 1992. It has only one room and one teacher to cater to 102 students of the whole village.

Neither the school is being upgraded to the primary level nor maintained, putting physical and academic future of the students at stake.

They said that despite repeated appeals to the government and elected representatives, no steps were being taken to provide basic facilities to the school.

The one room of the school was built through community support but there are neither furniture nor any shade and students have to take classes in the open in summer and winter months.

The local people demanded that the government should upgrade the school and ensure construction of more rooms and appointment of teachers to facilitate the students.–Jahan Zeb
