Defamation case against Sher Jahan Sahil dismissed

Defamation case against social activist dismissed

CHITRAL: A court here dismissed a defamation case against social activist Sher Jahan Sahil for non-prosecution.

The defamation case was filed by a man from Lotkoh, Zohran Shah, in the year 2018, claiming damages worth Rs10 million.

Shah stopped appearing in the court of additional district and sessions judge Lower Chitral Muhammad Qasim hearing the case after the same court dismissed his similar petition filed against Chitral Today in August this year.

The case against Chitral Today was instituted in the year 2014. Documents submitted to court showed that Shah had approached Peshawar High Court against his dismissal from the AKES but failed to get relief. But he went to the Chitral court against Chitral Today over a report claiming that he had resigned, was not terminated from the AKES.

In that petition, the court ruled that the report by Chitral Today about sacking of Shah from AKES for corruption charges was true.

In the latest decision, the court while dismissing his case said no one from the side of the plaintiff appeared in court on three consecutive hearings.

The dismissal of the defamation cases would help discourage elements trying to suppress independent voices in society, said Mr Sahil after fighting the case for over four years.
