CHITRAL: Construction of an RCC bridge on Garam Chashma road at Shoghore could not be completed even after six years.
People of Garam Chashma told ChitralToday that the wooden bridge on the river Lotkoh was washed away in the 2015 floods, affecting about 15,000 population.
The communication and works (C&W) department engaged an army organization to establish an iron bridge but that has now become dilapidated due to lack of maintenance and cannot bear loaded trucks.
On the repeated demand of the locals, the C&W department approved the construction of an RCC bridge and awarded its contract to a private contractor.
The contractor started work but after installing the foundation and five girders abandoned the project due to non-payment of his dues.
The executive engineer of the C&W department, when contacted, said work on the bridge had stopped due to unavailability of funds.
He said as soon as the provincial government releases the required funds work on the project would be restarted.–GH Farooqui
