Ijaz Ahmad – quest for higher education

PESHAWAR: Ijaz Ahmad from the remote village of Wasum in Yarkhun valley of Upper Chitral has been recommended as assistant district education officer (ADEO) by the KP Public Service Commission.

Son of retired Subedar Gul Hazar, Mr Ahmad did his MA in English literature from the University of Peshawar in 2010 and taught at Dawn College Mastuj till 2013.

In 2014, he joined  the Elementary and Secondary Education Department as SST (G) after securing second position in the NTS written test from Chitral with 80 out of 100 marks.

He had been serving in that capacity till he was recommended as ADEO by the Public Service Commission on November 26, 2021.

Despite lack of facilities in the the backward area, the family of Mr Ahmad has been keenly interested in acquiring higher education. To achieve the goal for their youngsters,  the family shifted to Peshawar in 2018.

Mr Ahmad’s younger brother Mumtaz Ahmad is already serving at the office of the director general of the Food Authority in Peshawar.

Mr Ahmad’s appointment on the key post in the education department is not only a testament to his hard work but it can also be an inspiration for the youth of the remote areas of Chitral.

Moreover, the induction of youth through the competitive process would surely help improve the quality of education in the public sector schools.
