Criminal negligence of NHA and district admin

Sarwar Kamal
In a democratic system, the concept of strengthening public institutions is paramount for the betterment and welfare of the masses. There should be a system of accountability, responsibility, ownership and dedication within these public institutions.

Unfortunately, these principles are lacking in our case due to lack of public awareness, accountability and rule of law. The masses in Pakistan are always at the receiving end.

I was travelling from Peshawar to Chitral. On the way approaching Chitral I saw one of the most scary scenes in the main road (N-45) near Sherri. I saw a huge piece of broken rock hanging like a sword on the main road. It has fissures and cracks all around it. It can fall any time.
On daily basis, hundreds of vehicles pass through this troublesome spot because it is the only main road connecting Chitral with the rest of country.
The monsoon season is also approaching very quickly. In summer rainfall is very dangerous and destructive. This situation in Sherri has been hanging over heads like the sword of Damocles.
Both the NHA and NDMA are the concerned departments. They should use and mobilize all the resources and heavy machinery to clear this spot.
On emergency basis I am requesting the DC Lower Chitral to coordinate with these two departments otherwise the outcome of the situation could be a tragic and catastrophic one.

  1. On behalf of the people of Drosh i congratulate and appreciate the effort and role of the writer and Chitral Today for highlighting this serious issue.Yes indeed it was a potential death trap for us.According to the official page of DC lower Chitral Facebook the NHA has already mobilised its resources and directed the NHA contractor to blast this rock.Full credit goes to Sarwar sahb in this regard.

  2. None of govt departments is working even to a least extent. NHA maust be waiting for bigger incident to occur and with lots of money. Look at road metalling in Booni Bazar. Instead of doing it from Booni bridge to facilitate the public, it has started from DC office, as if he is not a public servant. Civil society to play great role in this regard, and it is the responsibility that if govt is non functional then civil society has come in between and put pressure on.

  3. Thank you for highlighting this important and dangerious issue and the concerned deptt: should resolve it on priority basis..

  4. Thanks Chitral Today for giving some space to this writeup on such a short notice. I have shared the link of this article directly with the top officials of NHA (whatssapp) ie to Mr. Mokesh Kumar (member north), KPK NHA director Mr. Farid Khan and with Mr. Imran (protocol officer to NHA chairman Islamabad).
I hope this time on urgent basis they will take some concert steps to save the precious lives of the public. My humble request to DC lower Chitral please kindly coordinate with NHA and NDMA. Similarly, I have email this article both to Provincial and federal NDMA officials.
