Police active against underage bikers
CHITRAL: There was no accident involving underage bike riders during the Eidul Fitr holidays in Lower Chitral thanks to the police for keeping an eye and taking prompt action against them.
A study conducted during the Eid holidays in 2016 revealed that 77 per cent of road accidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were caused by bikers, mostly by underage motorcyclists driving recklessly or driving bikes unfit for roads.
In Chitral too, underage bikers have become a nuisance for the public and have caused a large number of fatal and non-fatal accidents.
The Lower Chitral police said it set up special pickets and took action against underage bike riders during the Eid holidays by impounding their motorcycles. As a result, no accident was reported from any part of the district this year.
The police called upon parents not to give bikes to their underage children as it not only endangers the life of the children but also that of other people.–Bashir Hussain Azad
