Hotel owner booked in balcony collapse case

CHITRAL: Police have registered a case against the owner and management of Terichmir Hotel in Chitral town in connection with the Aug 13 incident in which five tourists lost their lives.

As many as 16 other tourists from Punjab, all relatives, were also injured when the protection wall of the balcony of a room on third floor of the hotel collapsed on August 13, 2020.

The incident occurred when the tourists were taking selfies leaning over the protection wall of the balcony.

The dead and injured tourists belonged to the Kasur district of Punjab.

The police in Chitral registered the FIR on the complaint of Muhammad Jameel Anjum, a close relative of the victims. His wife and a daughter were among the dead.

The complainant said his family members lost their lives by falling down from the hotel balcony due to the substandard construction of the hotel.

According to the FIR available with ChitralToday, the police registered the case on Aug 26 under section 322, 288, 188 and 34 of Pakistan Penal Code against the owner and two managers of the hotel.
