‘Mentally disturbed’ man jumps into Chitral river
AYUN: A ‘mentally disturbed’ man from the Atany village of Ayun committed suicide by jumping into the Chitral river on Friday.
Rescue 11 Chitral said they received a call about the incident at 3pm and sent a team to the area.
The divers of the rescue service started a search for the body but till filing of this report at 7pm the body could not be retrieved.
The rescue while quoting local people said the 35-year-old man was mentally disturbed. He was identified as Zafar Iqbal, son of Muhammad Iqbal.
Suicide cases in Chitral have been rising in the last many years. Most of the victims were young women who killed themselves for different reasons.
The government constituted a committee to carry out a survey to know the actual cases of these incidents and devise a strategy to check them.
However, despite the passage of a about three years, neither the report was made public nor any action taken by the government.
