BOONI: Three coronavirus cases have been reported in Upper Chitral and one of them is said to be a local transmission, according to sources and results available with ChitralToday.
One of the three patients is the son of a 58-year-old man from Lonkoh Terich who had tested positive for the virus on April 28 after coming from outside Chitral.
A district administration official confirmed that the new patient from Lonkoh Terich had contracted the virus from his father.
Sources said the 58-year-old had returned from Peshawar on April 21 and after making an entry at the quarantine centre at Govt Degree College for Girls in Booni had gone home.
However, after spending four days at home he was brought back to Boon on the complaints of the villagers. Later, samples sent to the lab in Peshawar showed he was infected.
The second patient is also from Terich but he had come from outside Chitral and is not a local transmission, he added.
The third patient belongs to Nisur Sarghuz, he added.
The three new coronavirus cases have been shifted to the tehsil headquarters hospital for isolation.
With the addition of the three, the total number of positive cases in Upper Chitral is now eight.
One of these patients has recovered from the disease and sent home.
The two districts of Chitral reported 35 confirmed cases since April 19 when the first patient was found infected with the virus. So far, four patients have also recovered in Lower Chitral.
In all, there are now 30 active COVID-19 cases in Chitral.–Siraj Uddin
