Trade route to Afghanistan via Dorah Pass also ready for opening

CHITRAL: After the Arandu customs check post, Dorah Pass near Shah Salim in Lotkoh is also ready for opening of trade activities with Afghanistan and Central Asian countries.

In this connection, a ceremony was held at the snow-bound Shah Salim which was chaired by Sartaj Ahmed Khan, president Chitral Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Ihsan Ali Shah, Customs Collector Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), was the guest of honor.

The two international trader routes will bring a new era of progress and trade activities in Lower Chitral but the government ignored opening of Broghil route in Upper Chitral which is the shortest and most safest to link Pakistan with the Central Asian states.

Speaking on the occasion, Sartaj Ahmed Khan said trade in rugs, wool, warm clothes, gemstones, herbs and many more goods would see a big boost. He said the route was used for trade worth billions of rupees in the past but had been closed for several years due to security situation in the region. Now customs staff will be deputed here to regularize trade.–GH Farooqui
