BUMBURATE: Torrential rain in the Kalash valleys on Wednesday caused flash floods that blocked the road to Bumburate for four hours besides damaging fruit trees, crops and other roads.

As a result of the road blockade, hundreds of tourists remained stranded in the valley as well as on the road between Ayun and Bumburate. Most of the tourists included women and children. The local people of Kalash valleys came to their rescue and invited them to their homes where they were served with food, tea and fruits.

Some of the tourists thought it worthwhile to enjoy the weather by camping on the roadsides and cooking food on their own. A few visitors were also seen ducking for safety in hilly areas where rocks and mud were falling as the rain started. However, there were no reports of any incidents.

Local people complained that during the tenure of the ANP government in KP, the then deputy commissioner of Chitral Rehmatullah Wazir had purchased tractors to keep Bumburate and other Kalash valley roads cleared of rocks and mud during rains.

However, they regretted that none of the tractors was available to clear the roads of the road blockades. They called upon the incumbent DC to take notice of the matter and order a probe to ascertain why the tractors had been removed form the area.
