Independence Day celebrated in solidarity with Kashmiris

CHITRAL: A flag hoisting ceremony was held at the polo ground in Chitral town to mark Independence Day on Wednesday.

Like in other parts of the country, the day was marked as a solidarity day with the people of Kashmir after India abolished the special status of the disputed valley and launched a new wave of oppression on the people there.

Rallies later joined the main gathering at polo ground where polo, football matches, paragliding and tableaus by schoolchildren were held.

Speaking on the occasion, MNA Molana Abdul Akbar, district nazim Maghfirat Shah, Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmed and Commandant Chitral Scouts Col Moin Uddin said Independence Day was a day of celebrations but this year the nation was observing it as a solidarity day with the Kashmiris.

They said India not only illegally announced to annex the disputed Kashmir but also launched a new wave of terror on the people of the occupied valley.

They said the nation was united in supporting the people of Kashmir in their struggle for self determination.
