Official wants FIR against contractor of RCC bridge

CHITRAL: The subdivisional officer (SDO) of the communication and works (C&W) department Lower Chitral has approached the police to register a case against a contractor for allegedly constructing a bridge at Mori upper without the supervision of an engineer.

In his complaint lodged with the Koghuzi police, SDO Atiq Farooq said Asmar Khan had been awarded the contract but he sublet the work to another contractor, Irfan Ullah, which was against rules. The new contractor is using material in the RCC bridge without inspection by an engineer of the department, he alleged.

He said initially the contractor had used material in the bridge in the presence of an engineer but then twice he used material without inviting the engineer to the site.

The complainant said the use of substandard material in the construction of the RCC bridge on the road would be dangerous for public lives.

He requested the police to initiate legal action against the contractor.

Talking to this correspondent, Mr Farooq said the police were hesitating to lodge an FIR against the contractor.–GH Farooqui
