CHITRAL: Due to the recent spell of snow throughout the district, roads to a number of sub-valleys were blocked creating hardship for the travelers as well as the residents.
Most of the roads have also become sleepy and icy hindering smooth flow of traffic. In a number of localities, people remained stranded amid heavy snow.
The approach roads to the Lowari tunnel have also become treachery after the snowfall, forcing the National Highway Authority (NHA) to keep the tunnel closed from 8pm to 6am daily in the winter.
On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Khurshid Alam Mahsud, the departments concerned have deployed heavy machinery to open the blocked roads at various points by clearing snow, said the DC office.
Pictures released by the DC office showed staff working to clear the Shishikoh-Madaklasht road in lower Chitral by removing heavy snow. In other areas, other personnel were seen clearing roads of boulders and helping drivers and commuters stuck up on roads to move towards their destinations.
