Man booked on charge of assaulting 11-year-old girl in Ashiret

CHITRAL: The police in Ashiret village are investigating a complaint lodged by a local resident that his 11-year-old daughter was sexually assaulted by a man of the same village.

The police have registered an FIR under the Child Protection Act and section 376/53 but are yet to arrest the nominated man. The police said they had taken the girl to the tehsil headquarters (THQ) hospital in Drosh for medical examination to ascertain the allegation but the report was awaited.

The father of the girl complained to the police that his daughter, who is a grade 5th student in a local school, was returning home from the school when the man forcibly took her to a wooded area and raped her.

He said when his daughter did not reach home he went out to search for her and found her unconscious in the wooded area. After seeing the father, the alleged rapist fled leaving behind some of his clothing which the father handed to the police.

Local people have demanded that the culprit should be arrested and brought to justice for committing such a crime which is first of its kind in the whole valley of Chitral.–GH Farooqui
