Home dept to expedite withdrawal of terror charges against prisoners

In this regard, the minister met the home secretary KP Sartaj Ahmed Khan along with Jamaat-e-Islami former MNA Maulana Abdul Akbar. During the meeting, the minister also emphasized that the 22 people currently jailed in DI Khan should be shifted either to Timargarah or Mardan prisons on a priority basis till their release. The home secretary issued directions to withdraw the terrorism charges against the 22 rioters and shift them to a jail near Chitral. Maulana Abdul Akbar on the occasion thanked the home department and the KP government for realizing the ‘sensitivity’ of the case and ordering to withdraw the case and release the prisoners. It may be noted that the 22 people were arrested after they attacked the police station of Chitral demanding the police and other law enforcement agencies to hand over the alleged blasphemer to them. They also torched the car of the khateeb of the mosque for handing over the alleged blasphemer to police to save him from being lynched by the mobs.]]>
