Funds for flood victims divereted to Denin road, says ex-MPA

ISLAMABAD, June 7: Former member provincial assembly Ghulam Muhammad on Sunday accused the MPAs from Chitral of diverting Rs150 million allocated to the C&W for the rehabilitation of the 2013 flood affected people towards the construct of 200-metre portion of the Chitral-Booni road in front of the district jail in Denin.
ghulamTaking to ChitralToday on telephone, he said the Rs150 million were allocated for the 2013 flood victims of Reshun, Rayin, Merp, Garam Chashma, Jaghur, etc, by Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on December 21, 2013.
He said the meeting which was summoned on his request by the chief minister was also attended by MNA Iftikhar Uddin, MPA Fozia Bibi, Rehmat Ghazi and others to discuss the issues of the flood victims in Chitral.
He said the chief minister approved Rs150 million for the C&W department, Rs150 for irrigation department while Rs3.25 for the public health department with directives to make all-out efforts for the reconstruction of the damaged infrastructure during 2013 devastating floods.
He regretted that instead of approving more funds, the elected representatives of Chitral – the three MPAs – diverted the Rs150 million for the reconstruction of damaged road in front of Denin jail, depriving the flood victims of their rights as the money had specially been approved for flood affected people.
He came down hard on the provincial government of PTI for diverting the amount of flood victims for construction of the damaged road giving an impression it has gone bankrupt and there is not a single penny in the treasury when it comes to Chitral.
He said during the visit of provincial minister for local government Inayatullah to Chitral the issue was reportedly raised but the minister left without giving any assurance as the money had already been diverted.
The JUI-F leader said the route leading to Reshun powerhouse had completely been damaged is still in a dilapidated condition due to negligence of the MPAs who are spending the amount approved for the flood victims for political point scoring, which will be resisted tooth nail.
