Protest held against alleged murder of Chitrali girl in Lahore

CHITRAL, Dec 1: The activists of civil society organizations took out a protest rally and held demonstration in front of Chitral Press Club against the alleged murder of a girl from Barenis Chitral by her husband and in-laws in Lahore.

Led by Muhmmad Ismail of Awaaz District Forum, Niaz A Niazi advocate of Human Rights Program, they chanted slogans against the incident and were carrying placards demanding stern action against the murderers.

Later, they addressed a press conference and demanded of the chief minister of Punjab to conduct an inquiry into the incident of Nishtar town Lahore in which the 19-year-old Tahira Bibi was allegedly strangled to death.

The in-laws termed it suicide to conceal their crime. They said that the girl was married only four months ago and that she was the second wife of her husband and she had reportedly estranged relations with her in-laws which culminated in her murder.

The civil society activists complained that the girls of Chitral married outside the district met with the same fate of Tahira Bibi as their coffins are brought back to Chitral in most cases because no action has ever been taken against the murderers. They said that the civil society has been mobilized to raise strong voice against the issue forcefully so that no such incident may take place in future.

They asked the parents to conduct proper inquiry about the person and his family hailing from other districts while giving the hand of their daughters while presently the gullible people of Chitral reposed a blind trust on any person coming to Chitral for marriage.
