Protesters demand action against ‘corrupt’ officials

BOONI, Sept 18: The people of upper Chitral, under the banner of Tehreek Hoqooq Awam, on Thursday held a protest demonstration at Booni Chowk against the local administration and some government departments for their alleged corruption. 

The protesters said some officials in the Communication and Works Department and the Tehsil Municipal Administration were involved in misuse of public funds and no action had been taken against them despite repeated demands and protests by the people of the area. The protesters demanded immediate transfer of all assistant commissioners, tehsildars C&W, TMA officials who were being accused of corruption.

They expressed dissatisfaction over the proceeding in the corruption cases especially the Torkhow road project and said the officials accused in corruption were still on their posts. The leaders of the Tehreek also criticized MPA Upper Chitral Sardar Hussain and said he also had become a puppet in the hands of the corrupt contractor mafia. 

The speakers also raised questions about the double standard of power generating projects being launched by SRSP, and alleged irregularities in the BLSO. They demanded that an audit should be carried out of these two organizations through the auditor general of the province.

The protesters on the occasion also showed solidarity with Dr Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Tahirul Qadri and paid tribute to his stance against corruption.–SN Peerzada

  1. A Productive step has taken by Teehreek Huqooq awam upper Chitral. Dr Qadri’s movement has pass on awareness to the community. All that is over now. There is no place for the corrupt ruler and government officials in Pakistan. Time has come to kick out them from the screen.Go ahead without any fear peoples are all with you. Organize a DARNA in Booni Chowk like Dr Qadri and Imran Khan.
