Protesting lawyers seek action against civil judge
CHITRAL, April 3: Lawyers in Chitral town blocked Shahi Qila road for several hours and held a meeting to protest the alleged immoral activity of civil judge Booni who had tried to stay with two women in a hotel here. The leaders of the lawyers including Abdul Wali Khan, Alamzeb Khan, Farid Ahmed Jan, Niaz A. Niazi and Shahabuddin castigated the judge. The lawyers said that act of the judge should be taken seriously so that no person may dare to bring a bad name to the judiciary. They alleged that the lawyers of Booni town had boycotted the court of the judge due to his indecent behaviour and maltreatment for the last two weeks but no action was taken against him which emboldened him to commit such a shameful act. They asked the local police to register a criminal case against him for his act and bring him to book. Later, MNA Chitral Shahzada Iftikharuddin also addressed the protesters and demanded of the government to take stern action against the judge to pacify the sentiments of the local people. Meanwhile, a joint emergency meeting of the Chitral Circuit Court Bar Association of Peshawar High Court and District Bar Association was held in the district bar room in which a resolution was passed against the judge. In the unanimously passed resolution, 24 hours’ deadline was given to the government to expel the judge from the district and conduct an inquiry against him for which the lawyers said they were ready to provide evidence.– Zahiruddin ]]>
