Give us a varsity in 10 days or face protests

PESHAWAR, March 31: A former lawmaker from Chitral has asked the government to announce the establishment of a fully-fledged university in the district by April 10 otherwise the people would start protest demonstrations. INP 31-26Speaking at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali said a campus of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University had been opened in a rented building while a campus of Abdul Wali Khan University had been set up at the Chitral technical college by spending millions of rupees. He said these campuses were no solution to the demand of the students for a full-fledged university. Former UC nazims from Chitral Shamsher Khan and Abdul Haq were also present on the occasion. Mr Chitrali said the previous government had established the campuses only for political points scoring. The JI leader said hundreds of students graduated from more than 60 public and private sector colleges in Chitral every year, but they faced problems in continuing higher education due to absence of a university in the district. The former lawmaker demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Senior Minister for Finance Sirajul Haq to allocate funds in the fiscal year, 2014-15 for the purpose.]]>
