Nine held for trying to occupy Kalash family's land

CHITRAL, Feb 27 (APP): Deputy Commissioner Shuaib Jadoon has said that nine persons have been arrested on charges of trying to occupy a piece of land owned by the Kalash community. Talking to APP, he said FIRs against two land grabbers had been registered in the respective police stations. The case has been referred to legal section of the police department in order to ascertain as to which sections of the law can be applied against the land mafia. He said that police force had been deployed in the area and nobody would be allowed to occupy the land belonging to the Kalash community, adding the community would also be provided full protection and security. It merits mention that residents of Birir valley have demanded of the district administration and provincial government to take prompt measures for protection of their land from land mafia. The members of Kalash community during a protest demonstration in front of the deputy commissioner office said they had the possession of Khairabad land for centuries which was inherited by their forefathers but now land grabbers were trying to occupy it by adopting different tactics.]]>
