Honeybee keeping a better source of income, youth groups told

CHITRAL, Sept 19: Honeybee boxes were distributed among youth groups of Chitral for utilizing them as a means of earning. 883 copyIn this connection, a function was held at the office of rural community development programme (RCDP). Director Agriculture Jan Mohammad Khan was chief guest on the occasion while the ceremony was presided over by Mohammad Zahir Khan, Chief Municipal Officer Chital. The initiative is supported by South Asia Partnership Programme. The gathering was informed that 25 boxes were distributed among the youth of Chitral and 50 more would be provided to them later. They asked the youth to take special care of these honeybees and try their best to increase their number to convert it in a best source of income activity. Engineer Temour Shah, the coordinator for RCDP, said since 1997 they had been working in different developmental and women empowerment sectors in Chitral. He said they prioritized sewing and handicraft, computer centres and library for women at the village level. He said that on the demand of the local community they distributed the honeybee boxes among the youth in collaboration with the South Asia Partnership programme. The director agriculture briefed the participants on technical point of view regarding keeping the honeybees. Rahmat Wali, admin officer TMA Chitral, also briefed the stakeholders about honeybee keeping. Chief municipal officer Zahir Khan asked the youth to not take it lightly and deals with the honeybees carefully. Nasreen Bibi, deputy coordinator RCDP, emphasized on the youth to ensure participation of women in the process because they can keep the bees in a better way.–Gul Hamaad Farooqi  ]]>
