CHITRAL, Jan 21: The residents of Drosh are against cable TV network because it is disturbing the peaceful environment of the area and spreading obscenity there.
This was stated by Qari Inamullah and other representatives of religious leaders and notables of Drosh at a press conference here. They rejected the allegations of the cable operators that some people of Drosh had damaged their cables while police were not taking action against them.
Qari Inamullah said Drosh is a peaceful area and majority of the people did not want cable network because it spreads obscenity in the conservative town. The cable operators had alleged in a press conference that people of Drosh had damaged their cable worth Rs250,000.
They said some elements had provoked local people against a women shopping centre, a children park Chitral and public schools at Drosh by pasting posters with fake signatures. And after a few days, the women shopping centre was burnt down by unknown people.
They said Qari Fazal Haq was allegedly involved in the case but his name was deleted from the FIR after a few days. They said majority of Drosh people were against cable network and Pemra should not issue any license in such conservative area.
They said cable operators had accused Qari Jamal Nasir, a government servant, of spreading insurgency and tension in the area which was totally wrong because Qari Jamal Nasir was a peaceful citizen and had never been involved in any terrorism activity. They hailed the district administration for imposing section 144 and stopping the cable network in Drosh.
They appealed to Chief justice Peshawar High court to cancel the licence of cable operators in Drosh, claiming the residents did not want it.–Gul Hamaad Farooqui
