Sectarianism becoming a cancer

GILGIT, Dec 21: Speaker Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly Wazir Baig has said sectarianism has become a cancer and is eating the very fabrics of society from inside. [caption id="attachment_6508" align="alignleft" width="144" caption="Wazir Baig"][/caption] Speaking as chief guest at the opening ceremony of a bank here, the speaker said that without peace and harmony the region would never see the fruits of progress and development. He said Gilgit was the heart of the whole region but unfortunately this city had been mired in senseless killings, violence and hatred. It is the duty of each and every citizen to work for peace and brotherhood so that durable peace can be restored in the area, he added. The speaker said leaders from all schools of thought had the added responsibility of propagating tolerance and harmony for peace. About the opening of the bank branch, he said that it would bring more opportunities for the development of the area. He said in the past it had been the practice of some banks that they only dished out loans to selected people who never returned the money. He said small farmers and traders should be given loans so that they can promote their businesses.    ]]>
