Delimitation for LG Polls Put on Hold in Seven Districts

Staff Correspondent

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has temporarily halted the delimitation process for local government constituencies in Upper Chitral and six other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following amendments to the provincial local government law.

The decision affects Khyber, Kurram, Mansehra, Malakand, Shangla, Upper Chitral and Bajaur districts, according to an ECP notification issued on Monday.

The commission said the delimitation process was being deferred in light of amendments made to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act. It also suspended its notification issued on July 22, 2026, until further orders.

Under the latest notification, the delimitation exercise will remain suspended until the commission issues fresh directions. The ECP has also summoned the KP Chief Secretary and Secretary Local Government on August 20 to discuss the matter and determine the way forward.

The development is expected to delay further steps in the local government election process in the affected districts until the legal and administrative issues arising from the amendments are resolved.
