Islamabad, May 19, 2026: A court in Islamabad on Tuesday is set to pronounce it’s verdict in the murder case of Islamabad-based Chitrali social media star Sana Yousaf.
Sana Yousaf from Chuinj village of Upper Chitral was shot dead at her residence in G-13 sector of Islamabad on June 2, 2025. The very next day, the lone gunman, also a TikToker, was arrested by Islamabad police from his hometown in Faisalabad.
A light extinguished by cowardice
According to the prosecution, 27 witnesses were presented in court to prove the case.
The state prosecutor on the last day of the trial told the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka that the accused, Umar Hayat, was arrested the very next day after the murder and was subjected to a legal identification parade.
Alleged Killer of Sana Yousaf Retracts Confession
A doctor from PIMS, who conducted the postmortem examination of the victim, also testified in court. Medical reports confirmed that Sana Yousaf suffered severe injuries, and the firing was clearly carried out with intent to kill, as the bullets severely damaged her heart and lungs.
High Court Rejects Plea to Transfer Sana Yousaf Murder Case
The prosecutor further stated that the victim’s mobile phone contained the accused’s number, which was recovered by the investigating officer.
The phone was later identified by the victim’s father in the court’s custody. Digital data, including chats and location records, were also retrieved and linked to Umar Hayat.
Sana Yousaf Murder Trial to Start After Summer Break
The prosecution argued that the mobile communication between the accused and the victim is an established fact, and all digital and medical evidence has been presented before the court. Moreover, the accused has also confessed to the crime.
The victim’s lawyer, Sardar Qadir, argued in his final submissions that the crime had been fully proven and requested the court to award the accused the death penalty twice.
After completing arguments, the court took a 10-minute break and directed the accused to ensure his lawyer’s presence before the verdict announcement.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka reserved the judgment after reviewing all evidence and arguments and announced that the final verdict will be delivered at 3:00 PM.
