Chitral, May 12, 2026: Heavy rainfall in several areas of Lower Chitral, including the Kalash Valley (Bumburet), triggered flash floods and caused overflowing of local streams and nullahs during the night.
Heavy Rainfall, Flash Floods Hit Rumbur and Madaklasht
Due to the intense rainfall and sudden surge in mountain streams, the house of retired Inspector Noor Shali in Bumburet was partially damaged after being hit by a flash flood.
Fortunately, no loss of life was reported; however, a portion of the house and adjacent boundary walls were damaged.
Upon receiving the emergency report, Rescue 1122 teams already stationed in Kalash Valley, reached the site and launched relief operations.
Rescue personnel cleared debris from the affected house and shifted valuable belongings to a safe location.
GLOFs, flash floods wreck havoc, main roads blocked
Officials said that Rescue 1122 Lower Chitral remains on high alert and is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the district administration to ensure timely response to any emergency.
