Booni, May 11, 2026: A youth from Gohkir in Upper Chitral has gone missing in a remote mountainous area, triggering a large-scale search operation by local residents and authorities.
According to reports, Niaz, son of Muhammad Sher and a resident of Gohkir Dokandah, had set out toward the mountainous terrain with two friends. The area, located several hours away from the village, is known for its difficult and dangerous routes.
During the journey, Niaz reportedly became separated from his companions. While his two friends managed to return safely to the village, Niaz failed to make it back. When he did not return after a considerable time, locals grew concerned and began searching for him on their own.
After initial efforts yielded no results, the matter was reported to authorities. Police and Rescue 1122 Upper Chitral teams have since joined the operation, combing through rugged mountains and forested paths in search of the missing boy.
Residents say Niaz had a passion for hiking and had undertaken similar trips in the past, but his prolonged absence this time has raised serious concerns.
Search teams are facing significant challenges due to the vast terrain, difficult access routes, and limited modern search equipment. Family members remain anxiously hopeful for his safe return.
