Booni, April 27, 2026 (APP): Around 50 women in Upper Chitral have received training in dress designing and digital skills, enabling them to explore income-generating opportunities and improve their livelihoods.
Canadian support reviewed for women’s training centre in Chitral
According to a press release, the initiative was jointly organized by the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund and PTCL under the Ba-Ikhtiyar Women Project.
The programme was implemented in Booni with the support of Hurja Village Support Organization, while technical training was provided by the Institute of Rural Management.
The selected participants are undergoing training in two phases, focusing on dress designing and digital skills. The initiative aims to enable women to market their products through social media and access wider markets beyond their local communities.

Officials said the programme is designed to empower women by enhancing their vocational abilities, promoting financial independence, and improving overall living standards.
In addition to technical training, the initiative also focuses on building confidence and encouraging an entrepreneurial mindset among participants, enabling them to actively contribute to local economic activities.

By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern digital tools, the programme seeks to bridge the gap between rural artisans and broader market opportunities.
Participants expressed optimism about the training, saying it would help them achieve financial stability and self-reliance, while community leaders noted that such initiatives could significantly contribute to socio-economic development in remote areas like Upper Chitral.
