CHITRAL, Nov 4, 2025: The prolonged dry spell in Chitral finally came to an end on Tuesday as rain and snowfall swept across the valley, covering the mountain peaks in white and ushering in the winter chill.
Rain accompanied by gusty winds fell in Chitral town, Ayun and the Kalash valleys, while upper parts of the district received the season’s first snowfall. The weather change brought a sudden drop in temperature, transforming the valley’s atmosphere and marking the onset of winter.
In Upper Chitral, areas such as Laspur, Yarkhun and Torkhow experienced their first snowfall of the season, turning the mountain slopes white and closing some high-altitude tracks to local traffic.
The rain brought much-needed relief from weeks of dry and dusty weather, clearing the air and reviving the landscape. The system entered from the southern direction and is expected to benefit most parts of the district.
Local elders said the unusually dry weather this year had severely affected maize and fruit crops, especially apples, grapes and pears, whose yields had fallen sharply.
Snowfall has also been reported from the Kalash valleys, Shishi Koh, Golen, Lowari area, Garam Chashma and Gabor.
