Chitral, Sept 2, 2025: In response to a troubling rise in suicide cases among women in Lower Chitral, the deputy commissioner’s office has established a Special Women’s Support Desk aimed at providing immediate and effective assistance to women experiencing domestic violence, harassment, or psychological distress.
The desk will offer legal guidance, psychological counseling and protection services, targeting those most at risk. A statement from the DC office said that many women face barriers in accessing government support, so the desk is also reachable via telephone for those unable to visit in person.
The move comes amid a surge in suicides reported in Chitral. According to recent reports, at least four individuals, including three women, died by suicide over a span of just two days.
These incidents have shocked the local community and raised urgent questions about the underlying causes ranging from social pressure and mental health issues to lack of institutional support.
