Rain and storm alert for Chitral and other areas

PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert for upcoming pre-monsoon rains starting Friday, June 20.

According to the PDMA, strong winds, thunderstorms and rain are expected in many districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Upper and Lower Chitral. The rain spell may continue on and off until Monday.

There is also a possibility of hailstorms in some areas during this period.

PDMA has advised all district administrations, including Chitral, to stay alert and ensure availability of necessary machinery to deal with any emergency. Local authorities have also been instructed to keep the public informed, especially in sensitive mountainous areas.

Safety Advisory

Public is advised to stay away from electric wires, weak buildings, signboards, and billboards during the storm.

Farmers should plan their activities in line with the weather forecast.

Tourists and residents in high-altitude areas are urged to take precautions and stay updated on weather conditions.

In case of road blockages due to landslides or floods, alternative routes will be provided.

PDMA’s Emergency Operations Center is fully active. For travel and weather updates, citizens can contact the PDMA helpline before heading to tourist spots.
