ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has directed Afghan students already enrolled in medical and dental institutions in Pakistan to return to Afghanistan.
It also ordered colleges to complete the administrative process for their departure.
The PMDC instructed medical and dental colleges to facilitate the students’ return and said relevant authorities should issue the required no-objection certificates (NOCs) to Afghan students.
The council has also prohibited the admission of Afghan nationals to medical and dental programmes during the current academic session. Afghan citizens will not be allowed placement, transfer or migration between medical and dental institutions.
According to the PMDC, medical and dental institutions have been directed not to provide any unauthorised facilities to Afghan nationals and to strictly follow the council’s previous instructions.
Institutions that have not yet submitted compliance reports have been given three days to provide complete details, the council said.
The PMDC warned that institutions failing to comply with the directives, concealing information or providing unauthorised assistance could face regulatory action under the PMDC Act 2022.
The council further directed medical and dental institutions to ensure full implementation of its instructions and submit the required information within the stipulated timeframe.
The PMDC’s September 1 letter concerning Afghan students reiterates directions issued earlier on July 31.
