Intermittent Snowfall Continues in Lowari, Road is Open

CHITRAL, Jan 20, 2026: Intermittent rain and snowfall continued in and around the Lowari Tunnel area with up to six inches of snow recorded by Tuesday afternoon, according to the DC Lower Chitral office.
On the directives of the Deputy Commissioner, all relevant departments have been placed on high alert to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety, a statement said.
The National Highway Authority (NHA) machinery is actively engaged in snow clearance operations on the Lowari Tunnel approach road and the Garam Chashma Road. Meanwhile, machinery from TMA, C&W, and KVDA is conducting snow clearance operations in other parts of the district.
Despite the ongoing weather conditions, the Lowari approach road and all major routes remain open for traffic.
Authorities have advised travelers and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions. Travelers are also advised to use snow chains during travel to avoid possible accidents and inconvenience.

Snowfall Forecast

From January 21 to 24, there is a strong likelihood of heavy snowfall in the mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Tourists and travelers should take necessary precautions and follow the instructions issued by the government. In case of any emergency, they should contact the KP Tourism Helpline at 1422.
