Chitral, Dec 9, 2025: Work on the Chitral-Shandur road has been suspended as construction machinery and laborers have been withdrawn from the site.
The stoppage comes amid pending payments to the contractor, Umer Jan & Company, which reportedly total Rs. 1.243 billion.
According to sources, these payments, which are the responsibility of the federal government, have yet to be released. Consequently, the contractor has temporarily halted all work on the project until the funds are received.
Officials in Chitral however said construction work will be restarted spin as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had taken notice of the matter and ordered removal of all hurdles in the project including clearance of dues of the contractor by the NHA.
