PML-N Bags Six NA Seats, Majority in Punjab By-Polls

ISLAMABAD, Nov 24, 2025: The Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML-N) has emerged as the clear victor in the November 23 by-elections, securing nearly all national and provincial assembly seats according to unofficial and provisional results.

The party swept all six contested National Assembly constituencies and won six out of seven Punjab Assembly seats. Most of these constituencies had been vacated by PTI lawmakers after disqualifications, resignations, or other political developments.

PML-N’s most striking win came in NA-18 Haripur, widely considered the biggest upset of the by-election cycle. Babar Nawaz Khan secured an impressive 163,996 votes, defeating PTI-backed independent Shehrnaz Umar Ayub, who received 120,220 votes. This seat had fallen vacant following the disqualification of former opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan in connection with the May 9 riots case.

In NA-129 Lahore, PML-N’s Hafiz Mian Muhammad Nauman achieved a decisive victory with 63,441 votes, far ahead of PTI-backed independent Arslan Ahmed, who secured 29,099 votes. The constituency became vacant after the passing of senior PTI leader Mian Azhar.

Another strong showing for PML-N was witnessed in NA-185 Dera Ghazi Khan. Mahmood Qadir Khan clinched 82,416 votes, defeating PPP’s Dost Muhammad Khosa, who ended with 49,262 votes. This seat had previously been held by PTI’s Zartaj Gul, who was disqualified earlier in the year.

In NA-143 Sahiwal, PML-N’s Muhammad Tufail Jutt secured a commanding lead, obtaining 136,223 votes compared to independent candidate Zarar Akbar Chaudhry’s 13,220 votes.

Similarly, in NA-104 Faisalabad, PML-N’s Daniyal Ahmed secured victory with 52,791 votes, defeating independent contender Rana Adnan Javed.

In NA-96 Faisalabad, another resounding win came as Bilal Badr Chaudhry—brother of Minister of State Talal Chaudhry—triumphed with 93,009 votes.

PML-N also demonstrated substantial strength in the Punjab Assembly by-elections. The party claimed victories in PP-87 Mianwali, PP-98 Faisalabad, PP-115 Faisalabad, PP-116 Faisalabad, PP-203 Sahiwal, and PP-73 Sargodha, securing comfortable margins across almost all constituencies.

A notable highlight was the win in PP-116 Faisalabad by Ahmed Shehryar, the son-in-law of Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah, marking another influential seat retained by the party.

The only setback for PML-N in the provincial contests came in PP-269 Muzaffargarh, where PPP’s Mian Almdar Abbas Qureshi secured 55,611 votes, giving PPP its sole victory in the by-elections.

The results triggered swift political reactions. The Prime Minister described the outcome as a reflection of public trust in the government’s ongoing performance, while PML-N leaders celebrated the party’s across-the-board success. PTI officials, however, criticized what they described as historically low voter turnout and raised concerns about the overall electoral environment.
