Tents set up for affected families of Yurjogh in Garam Chashma due to land sliding.

Urgent Appeal for Relief as Land Continues to Slide in Yurjogh

Garam Chashma, Nov 9, 2025: Residents of Yurjogh village in Garam Chashma are facing a serious humanitarian crisis as the land in the area has been continuously sliding for the past month.

Homes have developed deep cracks, making the area unsafe for habitation. A technical report by AKAH warns that a major accident could occur at any time.

Nusrat Ullah, President of the Lotkuh Development Forum (LDF), in a statement said that despite repeated appeals to local authorities, representatives and the media, and a direct meeting with the deputy commissioner Lower Chitral, no relief has been provided by the government or district administration so far.

He added that the few tents provided to affected families were supplied only by AKAH, not by the government, and were set up in the same dangerous area where landslides and falling rocks pose a serious threat.

“With temperatures dropping below freezing point during November nights, keeping infants, women and the elderly in these tents is not possible ,” Nusrat Ullah warned. “The risk of casualties increases significantly if an earthquake, heavy rain, or snowfall occurs.”

The LDF urged the provincial government, district administration, and relevant agencies to immediately relocate affected families to a safe location and provide proper shelter, lighting, food, blankets, and other essential supplies.

Nusrat Ullah added that if no action is taken in the coming days, affected families will stage a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office. “Any loss of life will be the full responsibility of the government and district administration,” he said.
